Terms of Service
Last updated 27 August 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and speakthai.ai. They're short on purpose. If something here is unclear, write to us and we'll explain it.
01What speakthai.ai is
speakthai.ai teaches Thai to English speakers. Lessons are generated for each learner by AI and taught by Surang, our AI teacher. On paid tutor-review plans, a human Thai tutor listens to your speaking exercises and writes your report cards.
The service is operated from the United States by its founder, Michael Dolan.
02Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old to use speakthai.ai. If you're under 13, please don't use the service. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and we delete it if we find it.
Voice recording has a higher minimum age: 18. A real person listens to those recordings, which is why the bar is higher. That's covered in the Privacy Policy.
By using speakthai.ai you're telling us you meet these age requirements, and that you're able to enter into this agreement.
03Your account
You can use much of speakthai.ai without an account. If you create one:
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- Give us an email address you actually use — it's how we send confirmations and password resets, and how we'd reach you about your data.
- One account per person. Don't share it.
Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account.
04How you may and may not use it
Use speakthai.ai to learn Thai. That's what it's for.
Please don't:
- Break the law with it, or use it to harm, harass, or impersonate anyone
- Try to break, overload, or get around the technical limits of the service — including automated scraping, bulk lesson generation, or working around usage limits
- Resell, rebrand, or redistribute the lessons as your own product
- Reverse-engineer the service, or try to extract the underlying models or prompts
- Upload anything you don't have the right to, or anything unlawful
We may suspend or close an account that does these things. For anything that isn't clearly deliberate abuse, we'll normally get in touch first.
05AI-generated lessons — please read this one
Your lessons are generated by AI, and AI can be wrong.
This matters more in language learning than in most places. Thai is tonal, and a small error changes the word — not just the emphasis. A lesson can be confidently incorrect, and confident incorrectness is exactly the failure mode we work hardest against and can't promise to eliminate.
We do check. A native-speaker reviewer looks at flagged material, and the feedback control in the app exists so you can tell us when something looks wrong. Please use it — it's the fastest way anything gets fixed.
But:
- speakthai.ai is a learning aid, not a qualified teacher, translator, or interpreter.
- Don't rely on it for anything consequential — medical, legal, financial, official documents, emergencies, or any situation where being misunderstood carries real cost. Use a professional.
- We don't promise you'll reach any particular level of Thai, or reach it in any particular time. That depends mostly on you.
On paid tutor-review plans, your tutor's feedback and report cards are professional opinion and coaching guidance. They're not a certification, a qualification, or an assessment anyone else is obliged to recognise.
06Your content
What you put in stays yours. Your recordings, your answers, anything you write to us — you own it.
You give us permission to use it to run the service for you: to teach you, to track your progress, and — if you've turned on voice recording — to let your tutor listen so they can write your report card. That permission is exactly as wide as what the Privacy Policy describes, and no wider. It ends when you withdraw consent, delete the content, or delete your account.
We don't use your recordings to train AI. That's in the Privacy Policy too, and it's a commitment, not a preference.
07Our content
The lessons, the app, Surang, the name and the look of speakthai.ai belong to us. You may use them to learn Thai. You may not copy, resell, or republish them.
Thai as a language belongs to nobody. Facts about it aren't ours. Our particular explanations, sequencing, and materials are.
08Paid services
speakthai.ai takes no payments today. When paid plans launch they'll carry additional terms — covering price, billing, cancellation, refunds, and what a tutor plan does and doesn't include. We'll publish those before taking any money, and you'll agree to them separately at that point. Nothing in this document commits you to paying for anything.
09Availability
We'll try to keep speakthai.ai running and working well, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. It's a small operation. We may change, pause, or discontinue features — and if we ever shut the service down, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to get your data out.
10Ending it
You can stop any time. Delete your account in Settings, or just stop using it. Deleting your account deletes your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
We can too, if you break these terms, or if we stop offering the service. Except in cases of clear abuse, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to get your data out.
Sections that should outlive the account — your content permissions ending, the disclaimers, and the liability limits — survive it.
11Disclaimers
speakthai.ai is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that the Thai it teaches you will be correct in every instance. See §5.
Some places don't allow these exclusions. If yours doesn't, they apply to you only as far as the law allows.
12Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, speakthai.ai and its founder won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or opportunities, arising out of your use of the service.
Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) US$50.
Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law — including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
13Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located there, and you and we each agree to that jurisdiction.
If you're a consumer in a place whose law gives you the right to bring a claim locally, this doesn't take that right away.
14Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we'll update this page and change the date at the top. For anything significant we'll tell you in the app rather than relying on you to notice. If you keep using speakthai.ai after a change takes effect, that's your acceptance of it — and if you don't agree, you can close your account.
15The rest
- If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
- If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to.
- These terms, plus the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the service.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms to someone else. We may transfer ours if the service changes hands, and we'd tell you if that happened.
